 Disaster Planning

Responding to catastrophic events such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina requires an incredible amount of coordination among private sector leaders, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

To ensure that the electric power industry is ready to respond in the event of a future disaster, the industry is working with federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as state and local authorities, to identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of electric utility responses during disaster events.
