 Industry Financial Performance

The industry shrank slightly with a 0.6% decline in electric output in 2011, largely due to a slow-growth economy and little year-to-year benefit from weather. This output followed a significant upward movement of 3.7% in 2010 and downward movement of 3.7% in 2009 (the largest single-year decline in over seventy years).  Rate case activity remains very high amid a backdrop of significantly elevated capital expenditures.  Learn more about the industry’s financial performance in this section.
