Benefits
Included as part of our benefits are comprehensive medical and dental plans, a generous 401(k), a pension plan fully funded by EEI, flexible spending accounts, an outstanding educational assistance plan, Metrochek, fitness center memberships, an Employee Assistance Program, and more. EEI also sponsors activities to celebrate the accomplishments of our employees including a holiday party for employees and guests and a special summer event. Our staff members participate in community events which raise money for a variety of charities such as The Hospital for Sick Children and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. We are proud of our outstanding benefits program and work environment. Please keep reading for more information on our benefits. Medical InsuranceEmployees can choose between two types of medical plans: HMO or PPO. Coverage is effective the first day of the month after hire. EEI currently pays the full cost of individual HMO coverage and subsidizes PPO and family coverages. Employee premiums can be paid with pre-tax dollars. Dental InsuranceEmployees can choose between a Dental PPO plan or a Dental Network plan. Coverage is effective the first day of the month after hire. For both plans, EEI pays the full cost of individual coverage and approximately 80% of the cost of family coverage. 401(k) PlanOur 401(k) Plan enables staff members to save for retirement on a pre-tax basis. We view this as a very important benefit, and participation can begin the first day of the month after hire. Our match is very generous, dollar for dollar for the first 6% of salary. EEI's matching contributions vest 20% a year and are fully vested after five years of service. With thirteen investment funds and a self-directed brokerage account option, there are plenty of choices. Most employees may defer up to 85% of pay on a pre-tax basis. As an additional feature, we also permit after-tax contributions to the plan. Retirement BenefitsEEI wants to give its staff every opportunity to enjoy a comfortable retirement and therefore also provides a pension plan. Benefits are paid entirely by EEI and are fully vested after five years of service. Plan participation automatically begins on the hire date. Paid LeaveOur employees receive Paid Time Off (PTO) each year with the amount based on years of service. New employees accrue 1.25 days of PTO for each full month worked in the first calendar year, up to 15 days or 3 weeks. Approximately ten designated holidays and one floating holiday are also provided each year. Educational AssistanceAfter one year of employment, EEI will reimburse 75% of approved tuition and associated costs, including laboratory and registration fees and books. This is an outstanding benefit, one which enables many EEI employees to further their education. Flexible Spending AccountsTo help our employees save money on their taxes, EEI offers medical and dependent care spending account plans. EEI also has a premium conversion plan; medical and dental insurance premiums can be paid with pre-tax dollars. Fitness CenterMembership in the Market Square Fitness Center, located one block from EEI, is available to staff members for just $10 per month. Employee Assistance Program (EAP)EEI's Employee Assistance Program helps staff members and their families resolve various problems, including family or marital difficulties and financial planning or legal worries. The EAP provides confidential assistance at no charge to the employee. Our EAP also has a dependent care referral service to help locate childcare and elder care resources. MetrochekMetrochek assists employees in saving money on daily commuting expenses. A set amount of commuting expenses can be paid with pre-tax dollars. Disability PlansEEI's short-term and long-term disability plans provide employees with financial protection in the event of an extended illness or disability. The coverage is provided at no cost to the employee. Life InsuranceLife insurance, equal to one time annualized salary, is paid for by EEI. Coverage begins the first day of the month after hire. Voluntary supplemental life insurance and dependent life insurance coverage are available on a cost-sharing basis.
