Retail Energy Services Group

EEI's Retail Energy Services Group (RES) provides expertise, access to customers and policymakers, and tools to maximize market potential and minimize the intrusion of unproductive regulation. RES works to advance equitable policies and provide strategic business information to ensure members' ability to compete.

The RES is comprised of the following:

  • Member Commercial Operations
Focuses on Federal energy efficiency programs and privatization, transportation policies, and member company operations pertaining to customer service. Demand response, procurement, alternative-fueled vehicles, fleet management, trucking regulations, and telecommunications are some of the policy issues covered. Customer service activities include accounting, collection, credit, meter reading, billing, phone centers, customer information systems, training of customer service representatives, mailing operations and customer relations matters.
  • National Accounts
Provides a cost-effective venue for our members to conduct business with National Account customers such as hotels, restaurants, retail chain stores, and the Federal government. The aggregated electric bills of these National Accounts total $12 billion. Activities include conducting customer surveys and working to educate National Account customers to gain their understanding and support on key industry issues.
  • Retail Market Structures
Provides members with up to date information on building and electrical codes, energy efficiency standards, voluntary market transformation programs, and other activities that may affect retail markets. Conducts analyses on the impact of new technologies, marketing programs, regulations, or laws that can affect current or future markets for energy sales and services. Offers venues for members to access information on residential and light commercial markets.
  • State Competitive and Regulatory Policies
Develops policies and advocacy to promote changes in state regulation and competitive retail market rules that support the financial viability of our retail distribution companies.
  • Supplier Diversity
Promotes minority business development through the Supplier Diversity Initiative.
