Disaster Planning

Recent catastrophic events, such as the 9/11 terrorism attacks and Hurricane Katrina, highlight the need for the private sector and federal, state, and local governments to coordinate in disaster preparedness and response.  The industry is working with federal government agencies, including the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, and the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as state and local authorities, to identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of electric utility response to disasters.

On July 25, 2006 the U.S. Department of Energy and EEI jointly hosted an Electric Utility Industry Disaster Planning meeting to bring together electric utilities with representatives from various federal agencies.
