Eureka $mart House Energy-Efficiency Challenge

Eureka Smart House Energy Efficiency ChallengeA more energy-efficient future was the focus of a new contest by Edison Electric Institute, the Alliance to Save Energy, and NBC Universal’s SCI FI Channel.  Inspired by SCI FI's hit series "Eureka," a fictional Pacific Northwest town where the government has been relocating the world's geniuses and their families, the Eureka $mart House Energy-Efficiency Challenge rewarded one deserving homeowner with energy-efficiency improvements of up to $25,000 to make their home "smarter."

Contestants were asked to answer a few energy-oriented questions about their home and write a brief essay about why they should win an energy-efficiency home makeover.   More than 9,000 entries were then judged by a panel of representatives from SCI FI's Visions for Tomorrow" Advisory Board, the Alliance to Save Energy and EEI.

The winning homeowner is getting an energy-efficiency makeover during October 2007—Energy Awareness Month.  Additional campaign sponsors include the US Department of Energy, Whirlpool Corporation, the American Gas Association, Dow Chemical Company, the Consumer Electronics Association, Osram Sylvania, CMC Energy Services, and the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute.
