Progress Energy-Save The Watts Campaign Builds Energy Awareness

Progress Energy, headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., is a Fortune 250 company that serves more than 3.1 million customers in the Carolinas and Florida. Progress Energy is pursuing a balanced solution to meeting demand in its growing communities, which relies on energy efficiency, alternative energy and state-of-the-art power plants.

In 2007, Progress Energy developed an innovative customer education campaign.  The Save the Watts campaign is designed to build customer awareness of and participation in energy efficiency programs offered by Progress Energy. The highly interactive campaign features a dynamic Web site, as well as print and broadcast advertising. The campaign also includes "Save the Watts Guy," the new go-to-guy for energy efficiency. Save the Watts Guy offers a variety of tips to help customers to save energy and money in their homes and businesses.

Not only is Save the Watts Guy present in mainstream and online media, he is also out in the community. He has made special appearances at Progress Energy outreach events, such as the Youth Energy Solutions Summit in Florida, where K-12 students showcased alternative energy projects.  He was also seen at local The Home Depot® stores in North and South Carolina where Progress Energy offered a $1 discount off of CFL bulbs.

Since the Save the Watts campaign launch, consumer interest in the energy efficiency programs offered by Progress Energy has skyrocketed.  Since June, there has been a 450% increase in Web site visits and a steady increase in the number of participants in the programs.
