Puget Sound Energy--Promoting Energy Saving Education, Programs

Puget Sound Energy, headquartered in Bellevue, Wash., continues to allocate significant resources toward aggressive energy-saving programs and education in its 11-county electric and natural gas service area in Western Washington. Community outreach and incentives have already demonstrated changes in customer behavior and curbed demand, which will ultimately mitigate the need to build new power plants to accommodate the region’s growth.

PSE, which serves more than 1 million electric customers and 737,000 natural gas customers, has led the Pacific Northwest in compact fluorescent bulb (CFL) distribution and is on track to replace 10 million bulbs by early 2009, far more than any other program in the region.

To aid public awareness of how energy works in the home and community, PSE spokesman since February 2008 and local icon, Andy Wappler, contributes a regular newspaper column that reaches nearly 350,000 readers in PSE’s service area. His tenure as a television meteorologist in the Puget Sound area has made Wappler a respected, recognized authority, and his column, “Ask Andy,” provides practical advice and information to help residents save energy in the home and understand mainstream energy alternatives that can reduce a household’s carbon footprint.

Readers are invited to reach out to a PSE Energy Advisor with specific questions about how to reduce energy use and lower bills.  In an effort to continue to move the region’s residents toward a cleaner, greener future, the utility also funds research and education conducted by technology and conservation leaders in the community. PSE’s commitment and ongoing efforts to saving energy as the first fuel of choice have shown profound results for the Puget Sound region.  For more information, please visit www.PSE.com.
