Two back-to-back nor’easters in 5 days caused massive damage to trees and power lines and disrupted service for millions of electricity customers. As of 8:30 a.m. EST on March 11, approximately 45,000 customers remain without power, down from 1.05 million outages tracked at 8:30 a.m. on March 8.*

Electric companies are working around the clock to restore power safely and as quickly as possible. In some places, these destructive storms caused significant damage to the energy grid, requiring that the infrastructure first be rebuilt.

More than 10,000 mutual assistance workers from 29 states and Canada have helped impacted companies and their crews restore power. Learn more about the restoration process

We know that being without electricity creates hardships, and we greatly appreciate customers’ patience and understanding. Crews will not stop their storm restoration efforts until the last customer who can receive power is restored. If you are without power, visit your electric company’s website for the latest outage and restoration information.

Customers are also reminded to stay safe! If you see downed power lines, stay away and call 911 immediately. Always assume downed power lines are energized and can energize any objects they are touching. In some areas, snow has covered downed wires. Be aware of your surroundings, protect children, and safeguard pets. Also, never use grills or generators inside an enclosed space, and never connect a generator to your home’s circuits—plug appliances directly into the generator and follow all safety warnings.

The industry is monitoring a third storm that has the potential to affect parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast this week. While it is too early to know the track that this storm will take, it is not too early to get ready. Customers should review EEI's Winter Storm Safety Tips and ensure that their Emergency Outage Kits are stocked.

*As of 8:00 a.m. Eastern on March 7, approximately 116,425 customers were without power following the March 2 storm, down from a peak outage number of approximately 3.14 million.
