BUILDING THE FUTURE

PJM Interconnection, the 13-state regional transmission organization, projects that Dominion Virginia Power’s service area will be one of its fastest-growing regions. To meet that growth in a cost-effective and low-risk manner, Dominion Virginia Power has forged a strategy that depends on a balanced and diverse fuel mix of nuclear, natural gas, coal, hydro, and renewable energy sources, and conservation options. Last November, as part of that strategy—and as part of the company’s plans to build 5,300 megawatts (MW) of new generation over the next 15 years—the utility asked the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SSC) to approve construction of a 1,358-MW combined cycle, natural gas-fired power plant, the Brunswick County Power Station.
