GREAT RETURNS

Go west, young stockholder. Last November, Edison International and UniSource Energy Corporation each garnered the annual Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Index Award for outstanding shareholder return over a five-year period. Edison International won in the large-cap category with a five-year return of 245 percent; and UniSource Energy Corporation won in the small-cap category with a return of 172 percent.

Returns are strong throughout the industry. The EEI Index, which tracks shareholder-owned electric companies, reported that electricity stocks overall produced a 16.5-percent total return for the first 10 months of 2006, compared to returns of 14.8 percent and 12.1 percent for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500, respectively. This follows impressive returns of 23.5, 22.8, and 16.1 percent for the industry over the three previous calendar years, during which time the index greatly outperformed the broader indices.
