Where’s energy in the mix? According to Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI’s) "Power Poll" (a quarterly survey of residential consumers conducted online by Market Strategies International), the public issues most mentioned by the respondents continue to be war (16 percent), the economy (10 percent), and healthcare (8 percent). Two thirds of consumers (66 percent) feel that things in this country are off on the wrong track—virtually unchanged from 67 percent in the third quarter.
But just because energy is not foremost in the public’s mind, the overall concern about the country’s general direction continues to affect how people think about it: 58 percent feel the United States has gone off on the wrong track in addressing our energy needs, only slightly down from 62 percent three months before. Just over one-quarter (26 percent) say the nation is headed in the right direction on energy.
