SegmentationREGULATED REVENUES AND ASSETS RISE Among shareholder-owned electric companies in the first quarter of 2008, the regulated segment revenue rose by $2.8 billion, or 4.8 percent—from $58.0 billion in 2007’s first quarter to $60.8 billion. The segment’s share of total industry revenue (55 percent) was nearly unchanged, however. The segment’s operations include the generation, transmission, and distribution of regulated electricity to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Several drivers affected regulated electric revenue in the first quarter. In addition to a 2-percent rise in heating degree days relative to last year, utilities felt the impact of rate relief over the past year. They also saw higher competitive generation rates as lower-priced hedges rolled off; ratebase growth for those companies that were expanding or upgrading their systems; and continued underlying customer demand growth. On the negative side, some of the larger companies experienced significant increases in nuclear outage days.
