John J. Easton, Jr. joined Edison Electric Institute on 1 April, 1994 to oversee international member development and programs to benefit members in international business.

From 1989 to 1993, Mr. Easton served in three Presidentially-appointed positions at the U.S. Department of Energy: Assistant Secretary for Domestic and International Energy Policy, General Counsel, and Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Energy Emergencies.

Prior to his service with the U.S. Government, Mr. Easton was in private law practice in Burlington, Vermont, and was Vice President of Syn-Cronamics, Inc., a New Jersey-based international consulting firm. Mr. Easton was twice elected Attorney General of Vermont and served in that position from 1981 to 1985. In 1984 he was the Republican nominee for Governor of Vermont.

Mr. Easton has degrees from the University of Colorado (B.S., Accounting, 1964), and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 1970), and currently resides in Timonium, Maryland with his wife Donna.

Mat Hastings joined Edison Electric Institute in September 2002 as the Director of International Membership Development. Mat has worked in the energy sector since 1977, including positions at Penn State, Ebasco, the New York Power Authority, Chesapeake Utilities, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. For the past three years before joining EEI, Mr. Hastings worked with international clients, including the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, where he helped design the launch of their emerging energy technology investment program in developing countries.

Mat has spoken at utility conferences and workshops on a wide range of competitive and management issues and has published articles in international energy journals.

Mat has a BA from SUNY College at Potsdam and a Masters in Regional Planning from Penn State.

Maria-Albertina Veiga supports the International Affiliate Program's membership and development efforts. With her international and political science background, Maria excels at member relations, program facilitation, and issue management.

Prior to the inception of EEI's International Affiliate Program, Maria supported the offices of EEI's President and President Emeritus and their international relations work.

Maria is a native of Portugal and has traveled extensively. She is fluent in Portuguese, French, and Spanish.
