October 30, 2007 A more energy-efficient future was the focus of a new contest by Edison Electric Institute, the Alliance to Save Energy, and NBC Universal's SCI FI Channel. Inspired by SCI FI's hit series "Eureka," a fictional Pacific Northwest town where the government has been relocating the world's geniuses and their families, the Eureka $mart House Energy-Efficiency Challenge rewarded one deserving homeowner with energy-efficiency improvements of up to $25,000 to make their home "smarter."
