Federal Income Tax Incentives for Energy-Saving Improvements

April 13, 2007

It's tax time, and the nation's electric utility companies are encouraging those who have made energy-saving improvements to their home or business to take advantage of a wide array of federal income tax credits and deductions.

Consumers are eligible for tax credits on energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, windows and doors, and solar energy systems among other products.

Businesses can get deductions for new or renovated buildings that save 50 percent or more of projected annual energy costs for heating, cooling, and lighting compared to model national standards, and partial deductions for efficiency improvements to individual lighting, HVAC and water heating, or envelope systems.

These tax incentives are available for buildings or systems placed in service between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2008.  For more information, visit www.energytaxincentives.org.
