Updated March 2011

This updated report highlights major EEI member company transmission projects either recently completed, currently under construction, or in various stages of the proposal/planning/siting process. Of the total transmission system investments covered by projects in this year's report, several specific subcategories are discussed in greater detail: Interstate Transmission Line System Investments, Transmission Supporting the Integration of Renewable Resources, and Transmission System Investments whose initial driver is predominantly to meet System Reliability Needs.
EEI members continuing investment in Smart Grid-related projects also are included in this report. However, it is important to remember that transmission projects have the potential to address an array of purposes--some are needed to maintain high levels of reliability that customers expect, and others may deliver a number of benefits, such as congestion relief, reduced system losses, intergration of resources, and deployment of advanced monitoring systems to enhance situational awareness. While projects may be designed for a particular primary purpose, they often provide additional benefits.
A brief profile of each participating EEI member company is included, along with the representative projects provided. Information for each project submitted includes a project map, brief description, estimated cost, current status, potential partners, and intended benefits.
A low-resolution version of the entire report is available for online viewing. For printing purposes, high-resolution versions of each section of the report also are available.
