EEI represents shareholder-owned electric companies on industry finance and accounting issues, promoting sound business practices and regulatory policies.

EEI is leading efforts to ensure the financial well-being of the U.S. shareholder-owned electric utilities and its investors, as well as representing the best interests of utility customers.

In EEI's annual "State of the Industry"  speech before the Wall Street financial community, EEI leadership outlined the challenges and opportunities facing the electric utility sector in 2011 and beyond. The wide range of issues facing the industry include upcoming new environmental regulations, industry engagement in the development of rules to implement financial reform, the challenge in building new transmission, and the significant promise of electric transportation and the smart grid.

  • Dividends
The electric power industry is educating lawmakers and industry stakeholders about the benefits of the dividend tax rate reduction and is asking Congress to Stop the Dividend Tax Hike.
  • Impact of Current Economic Crisis
The electric power industry faces financial challenges similar to other industries, businesses, and individuals during our nation's current economic crisis. However, electric companies continue to plan for the future to meet our country's growing demand for electricity.
  • Investing in America's Electric Future
To meet our nation's rising demand for electricity, electric companies must invest in new power plants, as well as the transmission and distribution infrastructure to deliver power where it is needed.
