Energy Coalition Calls on CFTC to Maintain De Minimis Threshold

EEI—joined by the American Gas Association, Electric Power Supply Association, Independent Petroleum Association of America, and Natural Rural Electric Cooperative Association—today sent a letter to Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler, calling on the CFTC to maintain the $8-billion de minimis level.

The letter reinforces the argument that requiring end-users to register as swap dealers would only increase the cost of hedging, and therefore increase the cost of power, without providing the benefit of additional oversight or manipulation protections.
