America’s PrepareAthon! is a nationwide, community-based campaign, sponsored by FEMA, for action to increase emergency preparedness and resilience through hazard-specific drills, group discussions, and exercises conducted at the national level every fall and spring.
The first National Day of Action is April 30, 2014 and focuses on preparing for tornadoes, wildfires, floods, and hurricanes. America’s PrepareAthon! provides instructions for educational discussions, simple drills, and exercises for a range of disasters that will help people:
- Understand which disasters could happen in their community
- Know what to do to be safe and mitigate damage
- Take action to increase their preparedness
- Participate in community resilience planning
