EEI Commends Sen. Murkowski on New White Paper
Washington, DC (February 11, 2014) — Edison Electric Institute (EEI) President Tom Kuhn today commended U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for her new white paper, Powering the Future: Ensuring that Federal Policy Fully Supports Electric Reliability, which was released during the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners’ (NARUC’s) winter meeting in Washington, D.C.

“Senator Murkowski’s white paper recognizes the critical role that our nation’s electric power grid plays in America’s economic growth, job creation, and standard of living. She has taken an honest and balanced look at some of the major, emerging challenges facing the grid, including the impact of environmental regulations on baseload generation and the integration of variable and distributed generation resources onto the grid.

“EEI applauds Senator Murkowski for recognizing the importance of a balanced and diverse fuel mix and the value of the grid to all customers. As energy markets and the regulatory environment change, and with them, our industry’s generation fleet, preserving fuel diversity and flexibility remains critical to the industry.”
