EEI Commends Senate Commerce Committee Approval of Cybersecurity Bill

Washington (Tuesday, July 30, 2013) – EEI President Tom Kuhn issued the following statement today applauding the Senate Commerce Committee for its bipartisan passage of the Cybersecurity Act of 2013.

“EEI supports the Senate Commerce Committee’s Cybersecurity Act of 2013, and we thank the members of the committee for advancing this important legislation. We appreciate the efforts of Chairman Rockefeller (D-WV) and Ranking Member Thune (R-SD) in drafting a bipartisan bill that acknowledges the important roles of industry and government to secure cyber assets, and respects the existing mandatory and enforceable cybersecurity standards that currently govern the electric and nuclear sectors.

“The bill passed by the Commerce Committee builds on existing regulatory structures, leverages the progress being made under the Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Executive Order, and is another step in fostering improved government-industry coordination to address the evolving cyber threats to critical infrastructure. We look forward to continuing to work with Congress and the Administration to address this national security priority.”
