Thank you for your interest in the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). EEI is one of the nation's premier trade associations, having served the electric power industry and its customers for more than 75 years. We know that our staff members are our most important resource, and we are committed to offering them an exceptional benefits program and work environment.
Our benefits include comprehensive medical and dental plans, a generous 401(k), flexible spending accounts, educational assistance, transportation benefits, fitness center memberships, an Employee Assistance Program, and more.
EEI also sponsors activities to celebrate the accomplishments of our employees including a holiday party for employees and a special summer event. Our staff members participate in community events that raise money for a variety of charities, including the United Way, The HSC Pediatric Center and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
We take pride in the outstanding benefits we provide for our employees. More information on our benefits can be found below.
Employees can choose between three types of medical plans: an HMO, an HSA (Health Savings Account) or a PPO. Coverage is effective the first day of the month after hire. EEI currently pays the full cost of individual HSA coverage and subsidizes the other coverages. Employee premiums can be paid with pre-tax dollars.
Employees can choose between a Dental PPO plan or a Dental Network plan. Coverage is effective the first day of the month after hire. For both plans, EEI pays the full cost of individual coverage and subsidizes the cost of family coverage.
Our 401(k) Plan enables staff members to save for retirement on a pre-tax basis, after-tax and/or Roth basis. We view this as a very important benefit, and participation can begin the first day of the month after hire. Our match is very generous, dollar for dollar for the first 6% of salary. EEI's matching contributions vest 20% a year and are fully vested after five years of service. With a variety of investment funds and a self-directed brokerage account option, there are plenty of choices. Employees hired after January 1, 2010, will receive an additional 401(k) match subject to service requirements.
Our employees receive paid time off (PTO) annually with the amount based on years of service. New employees accrue 1.25 days of PTO for each full month worked in the first calendar year, up to 15 days or 3 weeks. Approximately 10 designated holidays and one floating holiday are also provided each year.
EEI will reimburse 75% of approved tuition and associated costs, including laboratory and registration fees and books, up to the tax-free maximum. A grade of “C” or better is required for reimbursement. The staff member must remain employed by EEI for at least one year after completing the classes or will have to repay the Institute for classes completed in the last year.
Flexible Spending Accounts
To help our employees save money on their taxes, EEI offers medical and dependent care spending account plans. EEI also has a premium conversion plan; medical and dental insurance premiums can be paid with pre-tax dollars.
Membership in the Market Square Fitness Center, located one block from EEI, is available to staff members free of charge.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
EEI's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) helps staff members and their families resolve various problems, including family or marital difficulties and financial planning or legal worries. The EAP provides confidential assistance at no charge to employees. Our EAP also has a dependent care referral service to help locate childcare and elder care resources.
EEI wants to assist employees in saving money on daily commuting expenses. Through the SmartBenefits program, employees can pay a set amount of commuting expenses with pre-tax dollars. To encourage use of public transportation and biking, EEI will provide a “green subsidy” to partially offset certain transportation costs. As an additional benefit, some parking expenses can be paid with pre-tax dollars.
EEI's short-term and long-term disability plans provide employees with financial protection in the event of an extended illness or disability. The coverage is provided at no cost to the employee.
Life insurance, equal to one time annualized salary up to applicable limits, is paid for by EEI. Coverage begins the first day of the month after hire. Voluntary supplemental life insurance and dependent life insurance coverage are available on a cost-sharing basis. Proof of insurability may be required.
EEI sponsors a variety of wellness events, including Health Assessment Testing and seminars. As an incentive, employees may be able to reduce premium costs for health insurance by participating in the Wellness Program.
This information highlights some of the features of EEI's benefit plans. Most of EEI's benefits are for full-time employees only. If any statement conflicts with the applicable plan document, the plan document will govern. EEI continues to reserve the right to change, amend or terminate any or all provisions of its benefits plans for active or former employees at any time and for any reason.
