Alabama Power Employee Leads Community Cleanup Program
August 2016

Mike Clelland has loved the water since he was a kid. As an adult, he continues to embrace his love of the water as an environmental specialist with Alabama Power and as the lead of the company’s cleanup program, Renew Our Rivers.

Electric companies are not just energy providers. They are valuable community partners and stewards of the environment. And Mike Clelland is the perfect embodiment of this standard.

Since the first community cleanups in 2000, Alabama Power employees and volunteers have made a remarkable impact in protecting waterways in their communities, collecting more than 14 million pounds of trash. The program also helps educate students on the power of conservation efforts in the community, hoping to create the next generation of conservationists.

“Our company was founded on hydro and is devoted to protecting our waterways,” Clelland said. “I have a natural interest in stewardship, and participating in Renew Our Rivers is a good opportunity for Alabama Power to partner with not only other operating companies but with multiple partners and organizations in the communities we serve.”

Clelland has worked with Alabama Power since 2008 doing what he loves—protecting the environment.
