COP27: Demonstrating Global Clean Energy Leadership
Earlier this month, leaders from around the world gathered in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, for the UN Climate Change Conference, or COP27. A delegation of EEI member company executives, led by EEI Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President of Public Policy and External Affairs Brian Wolff, participated in a variety of official side events highlighting the electric power industry’s clean energy leadership and its transformation of the U.S. economy.

- Plug In and Turn On: How Electric Companies and Automakers Are Teaming Up on EVs
EEI member company CEOs joined automakers to discuss recent developments in electric transportation, including the creation of the National Electric Highway Coalition (NEHC), which is working to build a foundational network of electric vehicle fast chargers along major U.S. travel corridors. EEI member company CEOs joined U.S. government officials at the U.S. Center to discuss how anticipated shifts in clean energy investment, workforce development, community engagement, and deployment of clean technology solutions will usher in a new era for the U.S. economy. - Electrifying Progress in Decarbonizing the U.S. Economy
This panel discussion among EEI member company CEOs explored the key role of the power sector in reducing carbon emissions throughout the U.S. economy, including how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the clean energy tax credits included in the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act together will help accelerate the clean energy transition, while making it more affordable, equitable, and resilient for customers. - Building a Resilient Future: The Power Sector and the Clean Energy Transition
This event highlighted efforts by the U.S. government and the electric power industry, as well as the impact of key public policies, to enhance resilience and to support communities. - Continuing the Dialog on Community Engagement and Investment
Local officials, representatives from the environmental NGO community, and electric company leaders discussed how to achieve equity and access in the clean energy transition, and how the new clean energy and climate laws can play a role in ensuring such outcomes. - Racing to Net-Zero—Building Tomorrow’s Technologies Today
This discussion with U.S. electric company officials and environmental leaders highlighted clean energy technology initiatives in the United States and abroad. The industry leaders also discussed how the new U.S. climate and clean energy laws will help accelerate deployment of new low- and zero-emitting clean energy technologies that will be critically important to helping the electric power sector and nation reach our net-zero emissions goals.
