​Aiming to strengthen U.S. energy infrastructure, a new white paper from the Edison Electric Institute calls for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to ensure reasonable rates of return are in place in order to continue attracting investment in the nation’s electric transmission system. “Maintaining, expanding, and enhancing the transmission system requires ongoing investment, and it is imperative that the commission foster this investment by providing stable, predictable, and adequate returns to the investors and owners of the transmission infrastructure,” said the report.

​The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's attempt to replace the Clean Power Plan will bring up a myriad of complex issues that will need to be resolved if a replacement rule is to withstand legal scrutiny. Washington, D.C.-based think tank Resources for Future unpacked a few of those issues during a Dec. 13 event. The EPA has indicated it plans to issue an advance notice of proposed rulemaking in the coming weeks to solicit feedback on a replacement for the Clean Power Plan.
