WASHINGTON (August 18, 2021) – The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today announced that Courtney Peterson, an executive with more than two decades of human resources experience, will join EEI as Chief Human Resources Officer effective September 13. Courtney will take over for Terri Oliva, who will join the American Gas Association (AGA) as Chief Financial Officer later this month.

Courtney has led the human resources function at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., since 2010. Prior to joining Sidwell Friends, Courtney served in various HR leadership roles for the Fannie Mae Foundation and the American Diabetes Association. She has earned senior-level certifications from the Society for Human Resources Management and the Human Resources Certification Institute. “On behalf of the entire EEI team and our member electric companies, I am excited to welcome Courtney to EEI,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “Courtney is a demonstrated and talented HR leader, who will bring a wealth of valuable experience to our team and to our member companies as we continue our journey to build a diverse and inclusive workforce. I also extend my heartfelt congratulations to Terri on her new position at AGA, and I am pleased that Terri will remain in our energy industry family.”

Courtney will lead EEI’s internal human resources department and facility operations. She also will be responsible for leading EEI’s external engagement with member company chief human resources officers; supporting industry diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; and overseeing EEI’s business diversity program.

Courtney has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in adult education from Robert Morris University. She also holds an executive certificate in leadership coaching from Georgetown University.

“I am excited by this opportunity to join EEI and to meet my new colleagues,” said Courtney Peterson. “I also look forward to working with EEI’s member companies on the range of HR and workforce issues that are so critical to the industry’s future.”
