EEI Applauds Passage of Transportation Bill
WASHINGTON (December 4, 2015) – Edison Electric Institute (EEI) President Tom Kuhn issued the following statement on congressional passage of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act.
“EEI applauds members of the House and Senate for their bipartisan support in advancing this comprehensive transportation bill for the President’s signature. This legislation will benefit electricity customers throughout the nation.
“Key energy security provisions in the legislation will provide the Department of Energy with emergency authority to respond to threats to the power grid, will help to protect sensitive information about critical electric infrastructure facilities, and will resolve environmental and grid reliability conflicts. The legislation also will help to streamline the federal permitting review process for large infrastructure projects, including energy generation and electric transmission facilities. In addition, the legislation will create a working group to improve permitting and route designation for emergency response vehicles to expedite the delivery of important utility infrastructure equipment following declared emergencies, and will help to develop electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
“We look forward to the President signing the bill into law and to working with the Administration and Congress as the provisions in the legislation are enacted.”
