Edison Electric Institute, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Honor Nation’s Lineworkers
WASHINGTON (July 8, 2016) – On Sunday, July 10, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) will salute the nation’s men and women who risk their lives each day in order to ensure reliable and safe electricity service for all Americans. National Lineworker Appreciation Day is celebrated each year on July 10, and also honors the life and work of Henry Miller, the first president of the IBEW.

Electrical lineworkers construct and maintain the nation’s energy infrastructure that delivers electricity to our homes, factories, and businesses. They are highly skilled workers who often work high above the ground in transmission towers or on distribution poles and in close proximity to live wires and other hazards.

“It takes hundreds of thousands of dedicated, hard-working people to maintain the energy grid in the United States, and our nation’s lineworkers are on the frontlines,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “Every day, lineworkers are installing new technologies to modernize the energy grid, and they are among the first responders when storms and natural disasters strike our communities.”

“A skilled workforce is critical to any industry’s success. Our nation’s highly trained lineworkers make sure that all Americans have access to safe and reliable electricity,” said IBEW International President Lonnie Stephenson. “IBEW salutes our nation’s lineworkers for their dedication to their work, their communities, and their commitment to excellence.”

To honor the nation’s lineworkers, Representatives Linda Sánchez (D-CA) and David McKinley (R-WV) have submitted House Resolution 784 in support of designating July 10 as National Lineworker Appreciation Day.
