Delivering The Future

DTE Energy Partners with State of Michigan, Volta Charging, and Kroger to Offer More EV Charging Stations

DTE Energy Partners with State of Michigan, Volta Charging, and Kroger to Offer More EV Charging Stations

October 2022

DTE Energy has partnered with the State of Michigan’s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure company Volta, and the Kroger grocery store chain to expand EV charging station locations at various Kroger stores in southeast Michigan. At least eight of Volta’s DC Fast and Level 2 charging stations will be added to four Kroger locations.

This project was made possible by grant funding from the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform, which supports the deployment of mobility projects in various locations across Michigan, including DTE Energy’s service territory.

This is one of DTE Energy’s many partnerships to expand EV access and infrastructure. DTE Energy has partnered with Volta through DTE Energy’s Charging Forward program to site EV infrastructure in targeted locations in southeast Michigan—including lower-income communities and rural areas—that are more often overlooked by EV charging network operators.

DTE Energy is also helping automotive suppliers and manufacturers green their operations through a program called MIGreenPower. By enrolling in MIGreenPower, customers can attribute even more of their electricity use to renewable energy, beyond the 15 percent DTE Energy already provides. The program is open to all DTE electric customers—residential, business and commercial. On an annual basis, MIGreenPower customers have enrolled more than 2.8 million megawatt hours of clean energy in the program, making it one of the largest voluntary renewable energy programs in the country. Participation helps customers reduce their carbon footprint and accelerates the development of new wind and solar projects in Michigan.

In early August, DTE Energy and Ford Motor Company announced the largest renewable energy purchase from an electric power company in U.S. history. Through its MIGreenPower program, DTE Energy will add 650 megawatts of new solar energy for Ford by 2025, increasing the total amount of installed solar capacity in Michigan by nearly 70 percent. For Ford, this means every Ford vehicle manufactured in Michigan will be assembled with the equivalent of 100 percent carbon-free electricity after the solar projects become operational. For DTE Energy, it means bringing even more clean energy to the grid and supporting broader efforts to decarbonize our state’s economy.
