Overview

EEI launched the industry’s Emerging Energy Leaders program in June 2023. Over the course of this year-long initiative, program participants:

  • Deepen their understanding of key industry issues.
  • Gain exposure to industry best practices and emerging trends.
  • Enhance their leadership skills through targeted workshops and executive-led discussions.
  • Build lasting professional relationships across the industry.

About the Program

Each spring, EEI member company CEOs nominate one high-potential leader to represent their organization. Selected participants attend EEI’s premier annual conference and thought leadership forum, where they engage in keynotes, breakout sessions, and exclusive cohort-specific programming. This includes executive leadership panels, peer discussions, and dedicated networking events. The cohort also is formally recognized during EEI’s annual Board of Directors meeting.

Cohort members are typically mid-career professionals—managers and directors from areas such as operations, communications, IT, and more.

Throughout the year, the cohort meets monthly during virtual sessions focused on key industry issues and leadership development.

In the fall, participants are invited to tour an EEI member company to gain hands-on insight into operational trends and emerging technologies.

In the spring, the cohort travels to Washington, DC, for EEI’s Spring Board of Directors and CEO Meeting. There, they hear from senior industry leaders and policymakers, participate in a leadership development workshop, and present a capstone project.

The program concludes with a graduation ceremony at our annual conference, where the cohort reconvenes and welcomes the incoming class.

Staying Connected

Graduates are invited to join a private LinkedIn alumni group, designed to help them stay connected, share insights, and continue building their network within the electric power industry.
