Washington, D.C. (January 06, 2021) — Edison Electric Institute (EEI) President Tom Kuhn issued the following statement in response to the violence today in the nation’s capital.

“Free, fair, and transparent elections—followed by a peaceful transition of power—are hallmarks of our democracy. Yet, we are seeing this very democracy threatened today by the chaos and violence that continue to unfold on Capitol Hill in a misguided attempt to overturn the legitimate results of our election.   

“A historic number of Americans exercised their right to vote last year, and it is the duty of Congress to certify these results. It is our duty as Americans to speak out against the violence we are witnessing, and we call on the President and other elected officials to strongly repudiate these actions.”
